24/7 gyms - good for the industry?

Market segmentation in the fitness sector has become more pronounced in recent years with the growth of 24/7 gyms and ‘full service’ health clubs. 24/7 gyms  are characterised by lower staff ratios, basic exercise equipment, swipe card access and CCTV supervision to monitor the premises while staff are absent in off-peak hours.The low costs of 24/7 gyms has also allowed for greater numbers of facilities in regional areas.

Full service gyms provide an increased focus on customer service and a greater range of fitness and other services.
