Position name Head of Netball

Employment Status Fixed term – three term contract commencing week 3 of term 1 2021.

The Position is part time. Hours of work are negotiable to reflect the requirements of

the season.

Key Relationships Reporting to Head of Sporting Programs, the role will liaise closely with all coaches,
parent support groups and players

Position Objective:
The Scotch College Head of Netball will provide leadership and direction to the Netball programme within the Sports

Department of the College. The Head of Netball will be responsible to the Principal through the Head of College

Sporting Programs’.

• Terms 1 & 4 – Planning of season, organisation or pre-season training, trials, trial matches, coaching

workshops and entering of teams

  • Terms 2 & 3 (During Season) – attendance at training and matches including State Knockout Games,

continuing working with coaches and players

  • Camps/Tours – Co-ordinate and run an annual Scotch College Netball Tour and conduct other camps and

carnivals as appropriate.

Key Responsibility Areas:


  • Co-ordinate the Netball programme for the Mitcham and Torrens Park Campus
  • Organisation of and timesheet approval of all coaches
  • Coach Development including recruitment of coaches
  • Player Development
  • Umpire coordination
  • Promotion of the School through the Netball Programme
  • Co-ordination of fixtures including IGSSA and State Knockout competitions
  • Co-ordination of training schedules, trials, trial matches, camps/tours and carnivals
  • Attend Netball Support Group Meetings
  • Attending Netball training, matches and tours.
  • Develop links with location and South Australian Netball clubs to access players and specialist coaches.
  • Invite high profile Netball players to present to players and encourage their development
  • Consider, propose and submit an annual Netball Budget
  • Oversee the use of Netball facilities and liaise with grounds staff regarding the preparation and

maintenance programme of the facilities, courts and equipment.

  • Tours – consider, propose and plan tour opportunities for various age groups or squads
  • Assist with enews articles, website updates, press releases, school publications reports and season review


  • Other duties that may arise associated with Netball as directed


  • Recruit and onboard coaches, ensure all coaches have the appropriate WWCC Checks, 1st Aid and RAN


  • Working with the school coaches in terms of professional development
  • Education of coaches which should include
  • Coaching outcomes for each age group
  • Patterns of play for each age group
  • Game policy – style of play
  • Sequential development of skills across age groups
  • A series of drills for coaches to use
  • Game review procedures
  • Evaluation and feedback for coaches on training sessions and games.
  • Identifying outside coaches to coach at Scotch in co-operation with the Head of College Sporting Programs


  • Assist all Netball players at Scotch College
  • Co-ordinate team selection and Development Squad Selection
  • Develop players through State Knockout Competition
  • Promotion and implementation of a Men’s Netball Programme through the Knockout Competition
  • Set goals for representative players
  • Develop Netball pathways beyond school and creating links and open communication with Scotch OC

4. Work Health Safety and Wellbeing

  • Take reasonable care of, and cooperate with actions taken to protect the health and safety of self and others
  • Report all accidents, incidents and hazards as soon as is practicable

Key Selection Criteria: Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Essential experience

  • Strong proven expertise in the field of sport. The capacity to manage sports success and excellence across

girl’s sport within a school context is vital.

  • This position would suit an experienced sports administrator with a passion for sporting excellence and a

strength in administration, organisation and communication.

Qualifications, skills and knowledge

  • Have a current coaching accreditation relevant to Netball and or Netball SA or Netball Australia.
  • Ability to work with a high degree of responsibility and organisation
  • Ability to show initiative and to work independently
  • Be able to communicate effectively with a variety of personalities, especially students, parents, academic

staff, sports coaches and grounds/maintenance staff

  • Capable use of the Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook
  • Ability to prioritise work, to meet deadlines and work within a defined budget

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be eligible to work in Australia.
  • Must satisfy child protection screening and adhere to Scotch’s Child Protection policy and procedures

Iincludes current RAN-EC, current First Aid training certificate and a current Working with Children’s Check.

  • Position is employed under the terms and conditions of the College’s Enterprise Agreement.
  • Work flexible hours to service the College’s various activities, which will include occasional evening and

weekend work.

  • Out of hours and weekend work is required.
